Jessie Mine coach quits

He said both the executive and supporters were alleging that he was now part of a syndicate which was now fixing matches in the league.

Muleya guided the gold miners to a place in the league after the Gwanda side finished at the summit of the Matabeleland South Division 2A League last year.

However, the script has been different this year as the team is in the murky waters of relegation after collecting a paltry nine points in 15 games managing just a single win.

Christopher Sithinga has been given the mandate to guide the team for the rest of the season starting with the reverse fixture against Blanket Mine when the league resumes this weekend.

The two sides shared the spoils in a one-all stalemate, a result which Muleya was heavily criticised for by the executive and the fans as they felt the team should have won after Jessie Mine had missed a penalty during the match prompting the experienced gaffer to throw in the towel.

Muleya confirmed leaving the Gwanda-based side.

“It’s true, I have left the club. You see, Jessie Mine is a community team and if you feel you are not giving much to the community then you ought to step aside and give others a chance. That is what I have done and I think it is the best thing for me and the club for us to move forward.

“I have been with the club for the past six years when the club was just an amateur side until I helped it gain promotion and when the fans and the executive are clamouring for results and even go to the extent of criticising you without acknowledging other dynamics at play, I think it is for the best that we go our separate ways especially after rumours started flying around that I was fixing games. I feel that will affect my CV and under such circumstances the best thing to do is just to leave,” an emotional Muleya said.

Jessie Mine chairman Zettie Nyoni also confirmed that they had severed ties with Muleya.

Muleya had a disastrous start to the campaign in which the club lost their four opening matches before notching their first win at home against FC Platinum Under-19s after dispatching the Zvishavane-based side 2-1.

After the victory against the platinum miners, Jessie Mine went on a string of draws starting with a nil-all stalemate away to Town United before drawing against Airstars (1-1), Chrome Stars (0-0), Whawha (0-0), MSU (2-2).

The departure of the gold miners mentor brings to four the number of coaches who have fallen by the wayside in the Central Soccer League so far this season after Town United axed Tobias Mudyambanje who was replaced by Beavan Gwamure.

Tom Ruzive was also sent packing at Chapungu before New Zimsteel ended their two-year-old marriage with Godfrey Tamirepi who later found sanctuary at Premiership side, Hardbody.
