Jet Stores loan officer and supervisor at the First Street branch, Blessing Matope appeared in court on Tuesday charged with theft of trust property.
Matope appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo, who released him on US$200 bail.
The complainant is Edgars and Jet Stores represented by Bekithemba Mthombeni, the group’s security manager.
The court heard that Matope and his accomplice Tildah Tinotenda Kandira, who was employed as a Loan officer by the company and is at large, connived to steal from the company.
The money amounting to US$11 346 was stolen between April 1 and 3.
According to prosecutor Nomsa Kangara, the offence came to light on April 3, when Hello Paisa who are partners with Jet Stores came to collect its money.
Matope allegedly let his accomplice leave without handing over the required money to Hello Paisa personnel.
To cover up for their offence, Matope went to another branch where he requested for US$2 500 from another Loan Officer Cecilia Mandaza.
He was given the money, and he acknowledged receipt of the money by signing and promised to return the money on the same day.
Matope returned to his office where he handed over the money to Hello Paisa personnel.
He never returned the money to Cecilia Mandaza as he had promised, and Cecilia Mandaza reported the incident to Mthombeni.
Investigations were initiated and Matope failed to account for US$11 346.
Further investigations led to the discovery of a CCTV footage of Matope and Kandira stealing the money leading to Matope’s arrest.
