A 33-YEAR-OLD Matobo man allegedly raped his neighbours’ two daughters aged 11 and 15, one after the other at knife point and gave each of them a packet of jiggies each.  The man (name withheld to protect identity of juveniles) of Mtotobi village denied raping the juveniles when he appeared before Gwanda regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza on Friday. He was remanded in custody to October 15 for continuation of trial. The man said the juveniles fabricated the story because on the day in question he was at a funeral. The girls told the court that the man raped them on his way from the funeral.

They said the man indicated that he had only intended to rape the older girl but ended up raping the other one to stop her from telling people about the incident.
Prosecutor Mncedisi Dube narrated how the man allegedly raped the two girls on April 21 this year.

“Complainant one (the 15-year-old girl) was accompanying her friend complainant two (11-year-old) to her place of residence. On their way they met the accused person who was holding two packets of jiggies.

“The accused greeted the two girls and gave them the jiggies. The accused immediately held the two’s hands and he force marched them to a nearby bushy area.
“The complainants screamed but the accused produced a brown okapi knife from his trousers pocket and threatened to kill them if they made any noise,” the court heard.
He allegedly ordered complainant one to sit down and she complied before he undressed her and allegedly raped her while the younger girl watched.

“Soon after raping complainant one, the accused then grabbed complainant two, removed her skirt and panties and had sexual intercourse with her once without her consent,” the prosecutor said.

The matter came to light after complainant one revealed what had happened to a member of the neighbourhood watch committee who had discovered that complainant two had difficulties in walking.

A police report was made leading to the man’s arrest.
