adminA MAN from Zvishavane, who could not stomach being jilted by his wife, committed suicide by downing poison at his in-laws’ house in protest after they took back their daughter.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday when Thembinkosi Ncube (43) of Izaya Park in Zvishavane committed suicide by drinking a poisonous substance in the presence of his in-laws after his wife, a Ms Mpofu, had dumped him.
Ncube’s brother, Tafadzwa confirmed the death but refused to divulge the circumstances surrounding the issue.
“As a family we are deeply saddened by the loss of our brother who committed suicide. My brother stays in Izaya Park but he drank poison in Maglas Stadium that is all I can say. I am not at liberty to disclose the circumstances surrounding his death because it is a family matter and I feel that we should resolve it internally without the involvement of the media,” he said.
A relative, who declined to be named, said Ncube had a long-standing dispute with his wife over allegations of infidelity which resulted in his wife dumping him and going back to stay with her parents in Maglas.
The relative said on the fateful day Ncube visited his in-laws intending to resolve the matter amicably and reconcile with his wife.
“Ncube and his wife have always been fighting until the wife decided to move out and go back to stay with her parents. They were in the process of separating. On the day in question he visited his in-laws and begged for reconciliation with his wife but his efforts were in vain.
“He had a heated argument with his in-laws which resulted in him drinking poison at their home,” said the relative.
Ncube, the relative added, was rushed to White Hospital in Zvishavane where he died upon admission.
“We buried him on Sunday at his rural home in Mberengwa,” said the source.
Police could neither deny nor confirm the incident.
