JLo to stay in Vegas

Las Vegas has become a destination of choice for music’s top divas, and Jennifer Lopez will soon be heading there herself.

The 45-year-old singer announced during Tuesday night’s semi-final of American Idol that she would begin a residency in the city’s Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in 2016.

‘‘I’ve been preparing for this moment my entire life,’’ JLo said in her announcement.

‘‘Starting in January 2016, Jennifer will perform in 20 shows at the resort’s AXIS Theatre over the course of four months.

‘‘The show is going to be a multifaceted, high energy Jenny from the Block party, mixing all aspects of what my fans and I love,’’ the singer said.

‘‘Dance, hip hop, Latin, and pop. It’s going to be the show I’ve always dreamt of creating,’’ she added

Jennifer’s large catalogue of hit songs will feature in the two-hour show, supported by dancers, live music, extravagant costumes, and state-of-the-art sets and effects.

‘‘Jennifer Lopez is the perfect addition to the exciting line-up at The AXIS,’’ Planet Hollywood regional president David Hoenemeyer said in a statement.

His colleague at Caesars Entertainment, Jason Gastwirth, agreed and added: ‘‘Jennifer’s show will be the perfect combination of a cutting-edge production spectacular and an extraordinarily fun night-out, all centred around a supremely talented international superstar.’’

With this announcement, JLo joined singers Britney Spears and Mariah Carey in the recent residency trend.

While Mariah only recently began her residency at Caesars Palace, Britney began a series of live shows at Planet Hollywood in 2013 she recently extended her time there by three months.

The news of the residency came just one day after FOX announced that Jennifer’s judging job on American Idol would come to an end after next season.

Despite the competition series’ impending demise, Jennifer will join fellow judges Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr for one final round of hopeful singers. Show dates will presumably be scheduled around her appearances on the TV programme. — dailymail.
