TRADITIONAL jazz musician Junior Tuku has released a song dedicated to the country’s national heroes dubbed ‘Zimbabwe Inyika Yedu’.
This comes as the country celebrates its National Heroes Day today. The song is part of his 13-track album titled ‘Ndiani Achabatanidza’ to be launched on October 18.
In an interview with H-Metro, Junior Tuku said the song is an encouragement for the younger generation to remember the sacrifices that were made by fallen and living heroes in attaining the country’s Independence.
“There is a need for the youth to remember and celebrate the people who dedicated their lives during the liberation war in order for us to enjoy the freedom that we have today.
“It is also about the various individuals who have been accorded national hero status due to their immense contribution, in various spheres of influence, which made a lasting impact in people’s lives.
“There is a need for the youths to remember our culture and heritage and uphold it and to safeguard it wholeheartedly.
“Additionally, this song also encourages us to work harder in the spirit of unity regardless of tribe and social stature in order to build our nation as it is our treasure which we must guard jealously,” said Junior Tuku.
