John Landa tourney contestants confirmed

THE eight teams that will do battle in the inaugural John Landa Nkomo Liquor Hub Super 8 tournament have been confirmed and the draw has been set for 13 August at a Bulawayo hotel.

The tournament is bankrolled by businessman and Zifa Southern Region Soccer League patron Raj Modi to the tune of $5 000 and is named after the late Vice-President John Landa Nkomo.

With all teams having reached the halfway mark of 15 matches log leaders Bantu Rovers, Amagagasi, Bulawayo Chiefs and ZPC Hwange have qualified to play in the tourney by virtue of being in the top four on the log standings.

The quartet will be joined by Technosphere, Black Boots, Victoria Falls Tigers and ZRP Bulawayo Province.
Bosso 90 who are sitting on position nine will not be part of the tournament as well as all the teams that follow behind.

The league will take a two-week mid-season break for the second half of the season that begins on 20 August.

a�?We are on the break and the games resume on August 20. We want the second half of the season to be flawless and we will discuss the issue at the meeting of second half fixtures. The mid-season break will also present us with an opportunity to hold the Super 8 tournament,a�? said league chairman Musa Mandaza.

The second half fixtures will be discussed at a mid-year general meeting on 13 August before the tournament draw is conducted.
