JOHN Tallach High School held its annual speech and prize-giving ceremony on Saturday — a cherished tradition that honours the dedication, excellence, and faith-driven success of its students.
The ceremony was more than a celebration of academic and co-curricular achievements; it served as a moment of reflection on the divine source of talent and ability.
Speaking at the event, Headmaster Mr Bonakele Ncube described the prize-giving ceremony as a significant occasion in the school calendar, where learners’ accomplishments across various disciplines are recognised.

“This year’s occasion runs under the theme A Light to Our Feet, A Light to Our Future. We firmly believe that a well-rounded, responsible individual — guided by ubuntu and a developmental mindset — is the product of a curriculum that integrates academic and moral principles,” he said.
The event honoured learners who had excelled not only academically but also in character, leadership, and spiritual growth, with some receiving awards for Bible Knowledge.
The School Development Committee (SDC) expressed appreciation to the headmaster and teaching staff for upholding the school’s reputation through consistently excellent results.
“We thank the school board and parents for their continued support. As the SDC, we have several projects underway to demonstrate our ongoing commitment,” said Mrs Mbizo, SDC Chairperson.
The year 2025 was packed with activities for the school, including sports competitions, public speaking, quizzes, chess tournaments, and more — with learners excelling across all disciplines.

The ceremony was graced by Mr Busiso Maphala, a former pupil and long-time ambassador of John Tallach, who congratulated the prize winners and offered words of encouragement.
“Congratulations to all prize winners. To those who did not win, this is not the end of the race — you can still achieve success next year. To the outgoing Ordinary and Advanced Level students, go out there and be proud ambassadors of John Tallach High School,” he said.
The day was filled with performances, including songs from the choir and dramatic presentations from the drama club, which entertained guests while delivering a powerful message to both parents and students: Say No to Drugs.
Over the years, John Tallach has maintained its reputation for instilling respect, humility, and purpose in its students, with faith as the foundation of its values.
