become a competitive outfit that can challenge for silverware this season.
Jongwe was appointed coach following the dismissal of Rodwell Dhlakama and his assistant Patridge Muskwe with the club’s leadership claiming their differences were undermining the spirit of the ambitious Premiership team.
Jongwe, who left Kiglon for an unhappy spell at Monomotapa, returns to the club as head coach and he has roped in his trusted lieutenant Pearson Matipedza as his assistant. Yesterday, Jongwe conducted his first training session with the club at Tomlinson grounds and said he was relishing the challenge of turning the team into a competitive side.
“I want to carry on with the Kiglon project and I’m happy to be back here because that’s where my heart belongs, we are like a family.
“We are aiming for the championship this season and we going to work hard to ensure that we achieve that goal.
“The team has a lot of good players and they just need to believe in themselves and they can match any team in the Premier league.
“We are looking at players who are committed to the cause of the team, players who want to develop and are resilient.
“We don’t have players with high profiles in our team but the youngsters we have are showing a lot of hunger for success.
“I don’t think our position is that bad on the log, we need about two or three games to catch up with the log leaders,” said Jongwe.
Kiglon, who lost most of their players to Dynamos during the off-season, started with a 1-0 win over DeMbare. The team has only won two of their last 10 league games, drawn four and lost four and are sitting sixth from bottom – 11 points behind leaders Motor Action.
Jongwe, one of the highly-rated coaches in the country, had been working as the technical advisor of the Mighty Warriors who qualified for the All Africa Games in Maputo later this year.
