JSC to launch second phase of e-filing

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is set to roll out the second phase of its Integrated Electronic Case Management System on February 1.

Next month’s roll-out is for the Administrative Court and Labour Court as a move to discourage physical interactions.

Initially, the e-filling system was introduced to superior courts that include the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and Commercial Court in May last year.

“Administrative Court and Labour Court are going digital on 1 February 2023. Don’t be left behind, register Now,” reads a post by the JSC.

The paperless system allows submissions traditionally done on paper to be submitted in digital form.

Lawyers will now engage in virtual court hearings while litigants track the cases and access judgments online.

E-payment of fees and e-filing of case documents will also be eased by the new system.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission recently welcomed the new system saying it will help in curbing corruption.

Last year, the Namibian Deputy Chief Justice visited Zimbabwe on a five-day tour to familiarise himself with how the JSC had embraced the electronic filing system.

After the launch on February 1, the JSC will begin working on another phase to connect other divisions, including the Magistrates’ Court and the Sheriff of the High Court.
