ZIMBABWE’S up-and-coming rugby star, Aaron Juma, has joined the University of Mary Washington and Mother Rugby in the United States.

Juma joins fellow former Falcon College student Huntsman Greaves at UMW.

He also joins as a transfer and is enrolled in UMW’s Business programme.

A statement from UMW said:

“When asked what his goals were for this season, Aaron quickly answered, to win every game, bring my parents to America to visit, make a lot of brothers, do really well in class, and get closer to God.

“Aaron stands 6’1’ and weighs 225 pounds, primarily plays 7 but would be equally effective at multiple positions.

“As a schoolboy, he won many honours, playing Craven Week three times and all the Zimbabwean age grade teams.

“Most recently he was one of the leaders of the team on the NCR tour of France and has made NCR All-American twice.

“Finally, Aaron was his university’s Athlete of the Year and one of Old Glory’s 0Picks in the MLR draft (along with his new roommate Sebastian Schefermann)

“His hobbies are music, anything outdoors in nature and all types of sports. Aaron played 10 sports growing up including soccer, field hockey, basketball and squash.”

Juma began life at his new school on Monday.

The former Falcon College flanker, who has represented Zimbabwe at various junior age groups, has over the last couple of years established himself as one of the top players on the US collegiate rugby circuit with a string of consistent performances for Wheeling University.

He was 17th overall on the draft list.
