Junior councillor wins continental award

Harare City Junior Council’s Alderman Moses Mbimbi has won the prestigious Africa-Arab Youth Council award for volunteering to serve the youth in Africa. Ald Mbimbi was conferred with the award in Sudan yesterday.

The conferment of the award was witnessed by Sudanese First Vice President Bakri Hassan Selah and other dignitaries from various countries including Egypt, Cameron, Eritrea and Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to The Herald on Tuesday, Ald Mbimbi said he was humbled to receive such a big award for Zimbabwe and Sadc.

“I am very happy for the country and the Sadc region as well,” he said. “I urge fellow youths to remain focused and do their best because you never know who rewards you

“I am grateful for the support I received from the city council, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Home Affairs.”

Ald Mbimbi said following his victory, there were many projects and events such as educational trips to Sudan and Egypt that were going to benefit local youths.

In a statement before his departure for Sudan to receive the award, the Office of the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet sent a congratulatory message to Ald Mbimbi.
