A junior tennis tournament sponsored by Fadzai Madzimbamuto will be held at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) on Friday.

The tournament is for Under-13s, Under-14s and Under-18s. Registration closes today and all participating players are required to pay a fee of $10, with the draw being conducted at BAC on Thursday afternoon.

Tournament director Khumbulani Tembo said the initiative seeks to help identify players with potential to become stars.

“Fadzai is one of the national team players and she has a passion for paving the way for upcoming players. We seek to promote tennis in Bulawayo province and instil a culture of sports, thus we’re expecting players up to Under-18 (both boys and girls). We think it is important to start engaging all players from a tender age,” said Tembo.

“We are appealing to members of the public to come and support the kids as this will motivate them. A huge turnout will also inspire them to become professional players that will represent Zimbabwe on the international stage.”

Tembo also said participation was open for individuals from other provinces.

“Participants are not limited to Bulawayo, but all interested players in that age range from other provinces.”
