JUST IN: Four villagers team up and kill suspected thief

FOUR villagers from Summerset Farm in Gweru appeared in court today for allegedly fatally assaulting a 27 –year- old suspected thief.
Trymore Khumalo (25), Herbert Chivasa (31), Knowledge Dube (30) Sikhalaliwe Mlalazi (24) are alleged to have killed a villager Isheunesu Gobore of  Missouri farm on the outskirts of Gweru .

Reason Ndlovu (45) an alleged accomplice is on the run.

The quartet appeared before Gweru magistrate, Mr Tendai Madanhire facing murder charges.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to September.

Mr Madanhire advised them to apply to the High Court for bail.

Prosecutor, Miss Helen Khosa said said on August 26 the four as well as Ndlovu allegedly suspected that Gobore had entered into their kitchen hut and fowl run that night and left unnoticed.

The following morning, the court heard that they followed Gobore to his homestead, but it was not stated if anything had been stolen from the kitchen hut and fowl run.

Miss Khosa said they tied Gobore to a wooden pole before assaulting him all over the body.

Gobore, the court heard, sustained head injuries and died on the scene.

“The five accused person teamed up, tied the deceased with a rope to a wooden pole and took turns to assault him with open hands, a sjambok, a machete and a log all over the body,” she said.

“The accused except for Ndlovu were apprehended by fellow villagers who witnessed them assaulting Gobore.”
