JUST IN: Two more people succumb to Covid-19

THE country recorded two more Covid-19 deaths and 120 new cases yesterday, with Harare recording the two deaths.

In its latest update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said all the recorded new 120 Covid-19 cases are local transmissions.

Harare recorded the highest number of cases at 85, all these from a closed construction compound.

“Harare had the highest number with 85 cases. Harare cases are from a closed construction compound. There are 117 hospitalized cases, two asymptomatic, 83 mild to moderate, 27 severe cases and five intensive care unit,” said the ministry.

The country recorded 206 new recoveries. The national recovery rate now stands at 89,5 percent and active cases went down to 2 302.

Matabeleland region is set to receive Covid-19 vaccines today ahead of phase one vaccination of frontline workers expected to start  on Monday.

The Vice President of Zimbabwe who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Constantino Chiwenga, took the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine when Zimbabwe launched its vaccination programme yesterday.

The Vice President turned up at Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital in Harare and took his first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine donated to Zimbabwe by China, allaying baseless pessimism around the inoculation process.
