WHILE magistrates are known for dispensing justice from the bench, one Bulawayo magistrate proved that their commitment to law enforcement extends beyond the courtroom when he apprehended a 21-year-old man peddling marijuana.
The suspected drug peddler Keith Shoko appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube, facing a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana as defined in section 157 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to March 21.
The court heard that on March 16, at approximately 7pm, near a factory shop situated at the corner of Sixth Avenue and George Silundika Street, the magistrate encountered Shoko selling marijuana.
The magistrate grabbed Shoko by the hand and handed him over to police officers who were patrolling the city centre.
The officers handcuffed Shoko, searched him, and found ten sachets of marijuana. They then took him to a police station, leading to his arrest.
