A SOMBRE atmosphere engulfed the Makomo family homestead in Mt Darwin yesterday as they laid to rest their son, High Court judge, Justice Elijah Makomo.
Justice Makomo died on Christmas Day at the Avenues Clinic in Harare at the age of 44.
He has been described as a legal champion, who left a mark in the delivery of justice in Zimbabwe.
The late Justice Makomo joined the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs as a magistrate in 2005 after a brief stint in the police force.
He was appointed a judge of the High Court in 2021 after holding various posts, including the Registrar of the High Court (2012-2013), Deputy Chief Magistrate (2018) and Chief Registrar of the Superior Courts (2019).
He also served as the Judicial Service Commission’s Head of Policy and Legal Services in 2020.
Justice Makomo studied Law with the University of South Africa.
He was also a holder of a Master of Law in Corporate Law and Master of Business Administration.
Top officials from the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the JSC and Law Society of Zimbabwe attended the burial.
