At the annual awards, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards, the 20-year-old pop star took home the Juno Fan Choice Award.
Bieber was not on hand at the Winnipeg, Manitoba event to accept the gong, but when his name was called out, a surprising amount of audible boos greeted the win. Canada’s Olympic women’s curling team accepted the fan choice award on behalf of the tattooed troubled superstar.
Fellow Canadian music artiste Serena Ryder defended Bieber against the negative reception to his award when she came on stage to accept her Juno for songwriter of the year.
‘I really think that Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and he deserved every bit of that award because he’s been working his ass off his entire life and we need to support how awesome he is,’ Ryder said.
While the Juno Awards celebrated Canadian musical acts such as Arcade Fire, Drake, Sarah McLachlan and Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Bieber was thousands of miles away on the east coast city of Montreal.
The singer, who has been dating Disney star Selena Gomez on and off, was with his entourage clubbing on the city’s main street.
According to witnesses, he picked up three female clubbers at 3 am and was seen heading back to his room for a private party. The star was recently arrested for a DUI in Miami and for destroying his neighbour’s property with eggs in Calabasas. He was also charged in a separate incident for assaulting a limo driver in Toronto.
While Americans have joked about deporting the pop star, Canadians have had a chuckle about him not being welcomed back. – Hollywoodnews.
