Cynthia Namurokisi and her pregnant daughter, Takudzwa, who were fatally stabbed in Victory Park last week, were laid to rest at Rimuka Cemetery on Saturday.
The two were allegedly killed by the accused, Obert Namurokisi, who reportedly stormed Stand 929 Victory Park and attacked them following a domestic dispute.
Background to the Dispute
Family sources say long‑standing tensions over finances, a bank card, Obert’s arrest, and Cynthia’s growing independence had fuelled conflict within the Namurokisi household.
Obert, recently retired and working at a private college in Kadoma, allegedly relied on Cynthia for financial support. Cynthia, a teacher in Magunje, had left her bank card with Takudzwa for safekeeping after suspecting Obert of misusing funds.
A source said Cynthia had confided that she feared Obert was involved in an extramarital affair and had previously abused his pension payout, prompting her to restrict his access to family finances.
Events Leading to the Attack
Another family insider said the situation escalated after Obert was arrested following a violent altercation with Cynthia at Cherrybank. “Takudzwa received a call reporting the fight and alerted Ingezi Police Base. Obert was detained overnight, but Cynthia later opted for a peace order instead of pressing charges,” the source said. During the confrontation, Obert allegedly accused Takudzwa of orchestrating his arrest and expressed regret over being her father. The source also revealed that Obert had a second partner in Cherrybank, with whom he has a daughter—an issue known within the family and believed to have contributed to the tension.
Father–Daughter Tensions
Family members say Takudzwa’s relationship with Cynthia, who raised her from infancy, had become a point of friction. Takudzwa’s biological mother died shortly after childbirth, and she was initially raised by Obert’s mother while Cynthia was still in school.
According to relatives, Obert felt increasingly threatened by the close bond between Cynthia and Takudzwa, as well as by Cynthia’s educational and financial progress.
The Fatal Attack
On the day of the incident, Obert allegedly arrived intending to “resolve matters,” but Takudzwa reportedly refused him entry into her home, where Cynthia had sought refuge. Obert is said to have forced his way inside, grabbed a kitchen knife, and stabbed Takudzwa before turning on Cynthia. Cynthia died at the doorway, while Takudzwa succumbed to her injuries at Kadoma General Hospital. Cynthia leaves behind two children; Takudzwa also leaves two young children. Family Dismisses Social Media Rumours
Relatives criticised social media users for circulating false claims about the victims.
“None of the stories online were true—there was no affair with a school headmaster, no revelation about Takudzwa’s paternity, and no suggestion that Obert was responsible for her pregnancy,” a family spokesperson said.
“The truth is what we have shared.”
