Kagudu’s rejection, a blessing in disguise

BIKITA Minerals defender, Blessing Kagudu, says he prayed and allowed fate to run its course following a stressful preseason, which saw him being rejected at Herentals and CAPS United.

He was left with no option but to rejoin his former club, Bikita Minerals, after five games of the season. And, as fate would have it, the Legends Football Academy graduate scored the winning goal when Wilson Mutekede’s men defeated Triangle 2-1, which was their first win of the campaign.

Kagudu struck late from a direct corner kick, and his strike also ended the road for Luke Masomera as Triangle coach.

The 23-year-old, a former Triangle player, is now coming this Sunday to face a wounded CAPS United, a team that let him go last month.

Interestingly, Kagudu has also lost a match against Makepekepe, during his stints with Herentals, Triangle and his current club.

Mutekede will be praying to use Kagudu’s luck charm against the Green family as his shield to avoid a defeat.

And, their visit on Sunday will present the industrious defender with a chance to prove if Lloyd Chitembwe was wrong to let him go.

Kagudu told Zimpapers Sport what he went through during the pre-season.

“It wasn’t a good time because every player wants to be at one club during preseason, and moving from one team to another was stressful.

“I kept believing and just left everything in God’s hands, but I’m happy that I’m at a club where I’m playing.

“I just want to work extra hard to repay those who made this move possible and helping the team to be in a respectable position remains my objective,” said Kagudu.

He hailed his teammates for a spirited fight, which saw them claiming their first win after six attempts last weekend.

“It feels good to be on the scoresheet as a defender, and it was a memorable goal that I will cherish for a long time.

“But it couldn’t have been that important if we had lost the match, and I want to thank my teammates who gave their all for us to get our first win.

“I believe maybe that is all we needed to turn the corner, and we just have to apply the same fighting spirit when we play our next game against CAPS United,” he said.

He added:

“We are coming to Harare to get a positive result because we can’t afford to be dropping points. The mood in camp has improved after that win, and we need to build confidence from that.

“We are not reading much about what’s happening at CAPS United. We are just focusing on improving ourselves, that’s what our coaches have been telling us.”

Bikita Minerals have accumulated five points in their first six assignments.

They are just a point above Chitembwe’s troops who have shockingly registered four losses during the period under review.
