HIGHLANDERS coach, Kelvin Kaindu has refused to confirm or deny reports that key players Peter Muduhwa and Lynoth Chikuhwa will leave Highlanders.

Ahead of Sunday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League finale against Yadah Stars at Barbourfields Stadium, Kaindu said:

“Of course, when you’re heading towards the end of the season, there are many rumours. Sometimes it’s true, we can’t run away from that, and we must prepare for it.

“As a coach, it’s difficult to comment on things I don’t have facts on. “So, for now, I’ll leave it as rumours, but there’s no smoke without fire. As a club, we are yet to receive any formal letter regards the two players,” Kaindu said.

Sources indicate Muduhwa and Chikuhwa have already sealed their moves to Scottland FC, joining Denver Mukamba, King Nadolo, Cleopas Dube and former Highlanders teammate, McClive Phiri.

Muduhwa has been instrumental in Highlanders’ defence since 2016, while Chikuhwa has rediscovered his form this season, scoring 16 goals.

He is in line to win the Golden Boot award this season. Kaindu has since praised Chikuhwa’s resurgence.

“If there’s one thing we’ve managed to do, it’s to see Chikuhwa score those 16 goals. He’s been outstanding, giving us crucial goals. Not many gave him a chance, but he worked on his confidence and delivered. We believed in him, and he hasn’t disappointed.”

With Chikuhwa leading the Golden Boot race, Kaindu acknowledged the threat posed by Yadah’s Khama Billiat who is on 13 goals.

Highlanders face Yadah Stars on Sunday, with the league season concluding. “Billiat is a talented player, possibly too good for our local league. We must focus on managing him during the game. He’s a favourite among fans, and if given room, he’ll hurt us,” said Kaindu.

In other PSL matches set for the weekend, Chicken Inn will play Herentals at Rufaro Stadium and CAPS United will battle Ngezi Platinum Stars. New champions, Simba Bhora, will face ZPC Kariba at Sakubva Stadium.
