Kaindu not taking chances

Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu believes the Chibuku Super Cup comes with a lot at stake for participating clubs and he will not be taking any chances against unpredictable GreenFuel at Barbourfields on Sunday.

Addressing the media yesterday, Kaindu said they will give it their all in search of victory.

“A cup game comes with a lot at stake, for now, it’s the only trophy that has been confirmed that we are all competing into and the winners are given the privilege of representing the country in the Confederation Cup.

“Though last time I read about CAF trying to do away with the cup winners to represent the country but, as it is now, if you are the winners you are allowed to represent your country on the Confederation cup.

“The prize money is also quite huge for the teams that will be competing. We know that it’s not that easy all we need is just to focus and what is important is to get to win and get to the next stage.

He added:

“When you are planning for a cup game it’s slightly different from the way that you plan for a league game.

“In a cup game, a winner must be determined unlikely in the league game where other teams will be playing for a draw.

“When you get to such kinds of tournaments, you must be mentally, physically, and psychologically ready.

“We have been also practicing how to take penalties although I think penalty shootouts are a lottery it can go either way but what is important is just to make your players focus it’s always easier to win the game before it goes to penalty shootouts

The club will be assessing the availability of Malvern Sibanda and Archford Faira who are out injured in the remaining days to see if they can be part of the match.

Kaindu felt that the late arrival of his players who featured for the Zimbabwe select was not in their favour.

“We resumed with everyone apart from four of our colleagues who were representing us at the national team level. We thought they would join us on Wednesday by late afternoon, but maybe the logistics put them at a disadvantage.”
