THE death toll from the Kariba boat capsizing disaster has risen to 80 after eight more bodies were recovered, police have confirmed.
The latest recoveries were made yesterday, with police saying identification of the bodies was still ongoing.
The boat, Mbuya Nehanda, belonged to the Rural Infrastructural Development Agency (RIDA) and was involved in the tragedy on Lake Kariba.
In a statement, police said the latest recoveries had pushed the confirmed death toll to 80.
“ZRP update as at 1400 hours today. The Kariba RIDA boat accident death toll is now 80 following the recovery of eight more bodies on 16th August 2026,” said police.
