Kariba mayor in cells

US$800.
Hwindiri (44) was last year in October ordered to pay US$100 per month to his ex-lover, Ms Paulina Jamu (27) of Karoi, for the upkeep of their child by a Harare Magistrates’ Civil Court.
This was with effect from November 1 the same year.
However, between January 1 and October 31 this year, Hwindiri defaulted on eight occasions resulting in the maintenance fees accruing to US$800.
This forced Ms Jamu to seek the intervention of the courts.
Hwindiri, based at number 13 Heights Drive, in Kariba was on Tuesday of last week taken to Karoi magistrate court by his ex-lover for defying the court order.
Presiding magistrate Mr Achibald Dingana sent Hwindiri to jail after he failed to pay the US$800.
He spent a night at Karoi Prison before his friends and relatives came to his rescue the following day when they managed to raise the outstanding money.
Mr Benjamin Negato appeared for the State.
