TWO Karma Night Club bouncers and a waitress have appeared in court on allegations of assaulting and stealing US$2 000 from a drunk patron.
Knowledge Mashamba (40), who is the head of security, Keen Mutombwa (35), a bouncer and Sasha Nhandara (23), a waitress, appeared before a Harare magistrate facing assault and theft charges.
They were remanded out of custody to February 11. It is the State’s case that on November 9, 2025, at around midnight, the complainant, Mr Gabriel Gwaze (45), went to Karma Night Club, Chisipite, Harare with his friends.
At around 4 am, Nhandare told Mr Gwaze, who was leaving the nightclub, that he had an outstanding bill of US$270 for drinks he had ordered for a certain lady.
The court heard that a misunderstanding ensued, prompting Mutombwa and Nhandara to push Mr Gwaze onto the sofa.
The argument over payment continued for more than 30 minutes. It is alleged that Marimo, who is still at large, manhandled Mr Gwaze and took him to a small passage where the accused persons started assaulting him.
It is the State’s case that the accused persons took advantage of the fact that Mr Gwaze was drunk. During the assault they allegedly searched his pockets and stole US$2 000.
Mr Gwaze later paid the bill after pulling out three hundred dollars from the other pocket, which had US$400.
He was then given his change of US$30. The court heard that when the complainant was escorted out of the club by Mashamba and Mutombwa that is when he discovered that his cash, which was in the other pocket, was missing.
Mr Gwaze reported the matter to the police station. The total value of the stolen cash was US$2 000 and nothing was recovered.
The court heard that Mr Gwaze was medically examined and a medical affidavit was obtained.
