Karoi coach targets Herentals

KAROI United coach Luckson Phiri has taken aim at Herentals when the two teams meet this afternoon at Chikangwe in a Northern Region Division One Soccer League encounter.

Both teams lost their mid-week games and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways.

Phiri said they were not looking much into their defeat against Ngezi and believes playing at home increases their chances of coming out with maximum points.

“I think we have had good preparations and our team is injury-free. It’s quite unfortunate that we lost against Ngezi, but we were on top of the situation and we gave them a good run and they know it.

“Unfortunately, the chances we created could not be converted.

“By virtue of playing at home, we have 90 percent chances of winning the game and for Herentals it will be difficult for them here,” said Phiri.

The team will be led by captain Innocent Chiwaridzo and seasoned players such as forward Ali Kazembe and Phiri is confident his charges will deliver.

“I think with these guys, with the form they have, I have no doubt we will win the match.

“So far we have won just one match, drawn two and lost two, but we have basically enjoyed our games.

“We have taken the lead in most games, only to lose in the last minute, but, unfortunately, football is crazy and that’s the area we need to work on.

“But I believe we are on the right track,” said Phiri.

While Phiri maintains a positive attitude ahead of today’s game, he should expect a tough game against Herentals, who have done well in most of their matches, despite the 1-4 defeat at the hands of DStv Rangers.

In other matches slated for this afternoon, Cargo Carriers host Ngezi Platinum at GMB Aspindale.

The visitors are coming in as the favourites given that Cargo Carriers have lost two consecutive games in the past two weeks.

Blue Jets clash against Seven Flames, who will be hoping to continue with their winning ways after a 3-2 victory over Darwin, in their last game.

Meanwhile Blessing Chabvutagondo of Blue Swallows is the top goal scorer for April and will receive $300 today at Tomlinson when his side takes on DC Academy.

The award is sponsored by Supreme Panel Beaters and they have increased the prize money from $200 to $300.

Chabvutagondo scored three goals last month to claim the first award for this season.
