KAROI United believe their sensational upset over Mushowani Stars will be the start of their revival after a poor start to their World Navi Northern Region Division One championship campaign this season.
The Mashonaland West side became the first side to beat Mushowani Stars when they came from a goal down to post a 3-1 win that triggered celebrations as far afield as Bindura.
On the same afternoon, Bindura United were beating Starbill 2-0 and Mushowani Stars’ loss meant that “BU” powered to the top of the table.
Striker Silas Sigwende, Tafirenyika Zulu and Blessing Magaya were the toast of Karoi as their goals propelled their side to a remarkable victory.
Karoi United started the season on a low note as some players boycotted training with the club facing financial challenges.
But Tenson Kamponda, the Karoi United chairman, was always optimistic that they could bounce back and their win over Mushowani Stars provided a timely reminder of their potential.
“We had a bad spell but I believe the good times are back and the team is doing well, we had our challenges but we will try to make sure we remain focused,” said Kamponda.
“The good form is a result of hard work and winning at Chikangwe is the beginning af good results to come.
“We struggled but the past four games were different and we hope to continue with the good performances.”
Since holding Starbill to a draw in Harare, Karoi United are still to lose.
They beat Commando Bullets before scratching a draw against Blue Swallows and then went on to humiliate high-flying Mushowani Stars who were yet to lose a game since the beginning of the campaign. Karoi United will meet another high-flying side Flame Lily this weekend hoping to continue with their fine form.
In the Zifa Southern Region, Agent Sawu’s Ntabazinduna have taken over pole position.
