Karting produces thriller at Donnybrook

NAIL-biting action was the order of the day at Donnybrook where the Harare Karting Club held their latest National Race meeting on Sunday, which was sponsored by Swift Transport. Tension started building from the qualifying sessions. In the Seniors/Masters Class there was huge excitement when the newly-installed electronic timing system indicated a dead heat between Ale Savo, racing kart 55, and his father, Maurizio Savo, driving kart 28.

Both qualified.
In the end, pole position went to Savo Senior for the next fastest lap in the qualifying session.
There was upset in the Cadet qualifiers, where David Mliswa beat the leading driver, Luke Rousseau, with Mliswa starting on pole.

Qualifying in the Minirok Class was also close, with Cameron Revolta driving for the Swift Transport Kart Team, taking pole position by just two hundredth of a second ahead of Zac Dufty.

Keegan Davie once more headed the Junior qualifying ahead of Isabella Savo, Daniel Lanca and Ben Ferreira.
The close qualifying was a preview of the standard of racing for the rest of the day.

Each class provided plenty of excitement for spectators, with carefully thought-out tactics, lightning fast decision changes and fantastic driving skills taking the eventual winners to the chequered flag.

Final overall podium positions were as follows:
Cadets:
David Mliswa, Luke Roussea, Sam Mliswa
MiniRok:
Cameron Revolta, Zac Dufty, Danica Hockey (racing for Swift Transport Kart Team)
Juniors: Keegan Davie, Isabella Savo, Daniel Lanca
Senior/Masters:
Brett Olsen, Ale Savo, Maurizio Savo
