
KABUL. — Afghan President Hamid Karzai yesterday extended congratulations to Pakistan’s president-elect Mamnoon Hussain and expressed readiness to work with him for better ties between the two neighbours. “The neighbouring countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan are brothers and that their destiny is shared. “Any positive or negative changes in the region effect the both countries,” said a statement issued by Karzai office.
“For dealing with present challenges and problems in the two countries, joint efforts and sincere cooperation are needed.
“Afghanistan is ready to work closely to achieve common goals with your Excellency,” Karzai noted.
Hussain was elected as Pakistan’s new president on Tuesday. A presidential candidate fielded by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Hussain is to assume the office of the president on September 9. — Xinhua.
