Kasukuwere calls on youths to take action

He was addressing delegates at the World Federation of Democratic Youth General Assembly in Harare on Thursday.
The conference was attended by youths from Venezuela, Vietnam, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Korea, Russia, Cyprus, Brazil and the Sadc region.
The assembly was held under the theme: “Youths struggling against imperialism: We chose our own future”.

Minister Kasukuwere said during the meeting, the youths came up with a concrete and affirmative position on their role in the future of Africa and worldwide.
“I would like to challenge you to follow through from coming up with good papers to embarking into affirmative action inclusive of the national, regional and international level aspects,” he said.

Minister Kasukuwere said imperialism would soon die if the youths continued working together as demonstrated during the conference.
The minister said education remained crucial and critical in the struggle for emancipation.
“Across the world, young people are realising the responsibility thrust upon them to lead, speak and to act against injustice,” he said.

Minister Kasukuwere said in Zimbabwe and in many other countries, history was distorted by colonialism.
He said there was also deprivation of basic services and opportunities to indigenous people.
“Imperialists went through decades of success in winning over our future against our will, taking our wealth and riches, feeding their children while ours suffered,” said

Minister Kasukuwere.

“Some mothers and fathers would die without ever knowing what it meant to be free; some would die without ever enjoying the fruit of their own sweat.
“They would spend their whole lives working to make the imperialist rich and when they retired they would be sent to their villages far from the imperialist’s comfort zone.”

Minister Kasukuwere said every now and then, a generation was demanded to decide the new direction of its course.
“Your generation has been given an assignment. That assignment is to free yourselves and take over the economic responsibility of your destinies,” he said.
“Africa is a rich place, Africa is not poor and Africa must never be hungry. Your generation has an assignment to protect and prove this belief.”
