RCU degrees approved

the university admits its first intake in August.
RCU applied to Zimche in November last year for approval to start eight degree programmes in four faculties at the institution’s campus at Morgenster Mission.
The university’s Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Wiseman Magwa confirmed the latest move.
“We are happy to announce that RCU will be offering internationally recognised degree programmes after the green light from Zimche that we officially got last week,’’ said Professor Magwa.
He said the university will offer degrees in the faculties of Theology and Religious Studies, Education, and Commerce.
Among the degree programmes on offer will be an honours degree in Special Needs Education that is targeted at hundreds of disabled students who graduate yearly from the Reformed Church institutions such as Morgenster Mission’s Henry Murray School and Copota School of the Blind and Workshops in Zimuto communal lands.
“We are indeed pleased with the confidence and faith that has been shown in us by Zimche and this is a milestone development that will go a long way in fulfilling a long standing desire by the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe to contribute in human resources development in Zimbabwe,’’ said Professor Magwa.
The Reformed Church in Zimbabwe tried to set up a university in 2003 with the name Great Zimbabwe University, but the move failed after some of the institution’s degree programmes were condemned.
Government later on took the name Great Zimbabwe University and created a new State-owned university, resulting in the Reformed Church University being granted with a new charter to open another university under a different name in 2010.
