The French coach was using the match to weigh his options before Zambia set up camp in Johannesburg on May 20 ahead of their 2014 Fifa World Cup Group D qualifying games against Sudan away on June 2 and Ghana at home on June 9.
Katebe went to Zambia soon after Hwange’s 2-1 win over Black Mambas at the Colliery and is yet to return for club duty.
Hwange secretary Burzil Dube yesterday said Katebe was still in Zambia.
“He went to Zambia for national team duties but we hope he will be back for the match against Highlanders,’ said Dube.
Katebe is the third player from Hwange to earn a call to a national team after the pair of skipper Rodwell Chinyengetere and Francisco Zikumbawire were calledup by Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo for camp next week.
Meanwhile, former CAPS United coach Fordson Kabole has left his Zambian side Power Dynamos to join DRC second division side Don Bosco FC of Lubumbashi.
Kabole told the Zambian media that he has a tough challenge of qualifying his new team to the DR Congo top-flight league by the end of the season.
Don Bosco is run by TP Mazembe club president Moise Katumbi’s son, Champion, and currently lies second of their regional second division table.
Kabole is likely to work with disgraced Zimbabwean players Darryl Nyandoro and Chris Samakweri who stand reportedly duped Kabole’s former club CAPS United.
