RALPH Kawondera has been appointed FC Platinum assistant coach with immediate effect and will be sitting on the bench against ZPC Kariba at Gwanzura this afternoon. Kawondera replaces Masimba Dinyero who was fired by his best friend Lloyd Mutasa last week on Wednesday in a shocking move following a fallout between the two.
“We can officially confirm that Ralph Kawondera has joined FC Platinum as assistant coach. He will be joining our coach Lloyd Mutasa on the bench tomorrow (today),” said Chido Chizondo, the FC Platinum spokesperson.
Kawondera, who negotiated his contract in the mining town on Monday, joined the travelling FC Platinum contingent yesterday.
“I am very happy to join FC Platinum. It is a very big institution that has a squad which has a mixture of youth and experience. My desire is to win trophies with the club and I am very happy to be part of the set up,” he said.
The 48-year-old coach once worked with Mutasa as his assistant in 2005 and 2006 at Flame Lilly. He was to become Mutasa’s assistant at Dynamos in 2011.
He has been head coach of Masvingo United, ZPC Hwange, Hippo Valley, and Simba Stars.
The former Blackpool, Dynamos and Darryn T player might be the tonic Mutasa needed as he had no assistant coach for the Caps United match in which he cruised to a 2-1 victory at home.
