‘Keep our ports of entry clean’

SCORES of Mutare residents thronged Forbes Border Post just outside the city to join the rest of the country in the national clean-up campaign.

This month marks the third anniversary of the national clean-up campaign since its inception on December 5, 2018.

Among the participants were security forces, staffers from Government departments, Environmental Management Agency, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, TelOne, Department of Immigration, truck drivers and students from Marymount Teachers’, Mutare Teachers’ colleges and Mutare Polytechnic among others.

In a speech read on her behalf by a director in her office, Mr Terrence Machocho, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere said it was everyone’s responsibility to ensure that the country’s ports of entry are clean and free from litter in order to portray a good image of the country.

“I am urging all stakeholders operating at Forbes Border Post to ensure that adequate litter receptacles are placed on strategic positions and refuse is timeously collected to the disposal sites.

“The authorities should put in place litter pickers to maintain the border area. Motorists and public conveyances passing through this border should ensure that no litter is thrown out of their vehicles,” said Minister Matsikenyere.
