Kersten win in Bulawayo

BULAWAYO-BASED junior golfer Justin Kersten utilised home advantage to claim the 2016 Matabeleland amateur golf championships at Bulawayo Golf Club yesterday.

Kersten, a junior national team player, was among several players who took to the field and won the championship division by five clear shots.

The Conway College student was the overall winner as Abel Tinofa won the A Division on gross 151 and he had to go for a playoff with David Amm who finished with the same score.

Tinaye Chatambudza, playing off four handicap, was the net score winner on 145 in the A Division with Davison Zulu coming in as the runner-up.

The B Division saw Bright Chihumbe taking the gross title as Panashe Mukumba was the runner-up on 165 while Rumbi Chisango and Morgan Makamba were net winners on 142 and 146 point respectively.

The C Division, whose handicap range from 24 to 36, was won by Peter Makombe and Brandon Sibanda with gross scores of 181 and 185.

Junior golfers had been having several tournaments during this school holiday and they are expected to continue with the competitions.
