This Friday, the Mzilikazi Youth Centre will host a Mzilikazi Arts Indaba, bringing together the local community and art practitioners.
Building on the success of the recent Kwela Initiative’s hip-hop-themed workshop at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) in Bulawayo last week, Dab Three Events, through its Enkundleni Exclusive, will curate a similar art-based workshop aimed at developing the Mzilikazi community.
Dab Three Events representative, Archie Hadebe, said that the indaba arose from the need to identify and nurture artistic talent within Bulawayo and explore the factors contributing to the stagnation of growth in the sector.

“Mzilikazi, one of the oldest townships, has produced immense talent in various fields, including the arts. The Mzilikazi Arts Indaba is about engaging with the community and understanding the challenges faced by those in the arts sector,” he explained.
The indaba will be led by Enkundleni Exclusive podcast hosts Mzingaye Ngwabi and author, Nonduduzo Ncube. Bulawayo City Council’s deputy mayor and Ward 8 councillor, Edwin Ndlovu, are also expected to attend.
Mzilikazi is renowned for being home to the Mzilikazi Arts and Crafts Centre, an incubator that has nurtured some of the finest artists, including Dominic Mkhosi, who has established an art school in South Africa; Adam Madebe, a steel and clay sculptor in South Africa; and former NGZ Bulawayo director, Voti Thebe. — @MbuleloMpofu
