He fills the vacancy created when Vice President John Nkomo on Tuesday moved to take up a non-constituency seat in the House of Assembly.
Cde Khaya Moyo becomes the second non-constituency senator to be sworn-in this week after Zanu-PF’s spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo also took his oath of loyalty on Tuesday.
Cde Gumbo filled the void left by late Vice President Joseph Msika.
Speaking soon after taking his seat in the Senate, Cde Khaya Moyo said he was humbled by the responsibility bestowed on him.
“I feel very humbled by the appointment done by His Excellency the President for me to be a Senator.
“It is a trust imposed on me which represents the feelings of the generality of the people.
“I take this as a challenge to prove to the people of this country that we are born to serve and service without discrimination, without looking at which party one belongs to but serving the generality of the people,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the appointment came at a critical time when the country was reclaiming its resources.
“We are embarking on a major stage of economic emancipation and people expect a lot from us in this house, it is not a place to come and sleep.”
The Zanu-PF national chairman said it was important to serve the people as “the voice of the people is the voice of God”.
