adminWearing the same passion he had when he cut his soccer teeth in 2003, Khumbuyani said the departure from the airmen, though acrimonious,became a springboard to better shows.
“I remember it was after being suspended following differences in the team. I do not regret leaving Chapungu despite being my nurturing garden. If there is anything I should thank it is that decision in 2006 which gave me a springboard to where I am now.
“My passion for Chapungu has not changed much it remains my home team which I wish well. They may not be doing well but their time of glory will come and Waru Waru will fly to dizzy heights,” said Khumbuyani.
The Caps United right winger, at home as an attacking midfielder, who is back in the city for the festive break, said he was happy with the progress he had made since leaving Chapungu.
“I have played in the Caf Champions League with Monomotapa and I have earned six national team caps but the biggest was making it among the 11 soccer stars, something which I could not have managed had I stayed at Chapungu.
“There are very few players who have managed that while at Chapungu, maybe you can talk of Maxwell Marhino Dube, Cuthbert Malajila and Phillip Marufu. This is not to say Chapungu are a bad club but that there is little focus on the team,” said the 28-year-old Khumbuyani.
On his future, Khumbuyani said he was equally at home at Caps United but should an opportunity arise to play for FC Platinum who were reportedly after his signature, he would fancy another dance in the Caf Champions League.
“It is the international matches where we learn a lot as players and the Caf Champions League is one platform I would envy. Should a move to FC Platinum materialise I would be happy but I am equally home at Caps United,” said Khumbuyani.
With the few riches acquired, the former Mambo Secondary School pupil, who is married to Glenda Gwekwerere, has invested in a residential stand and his house now awaits electrical fittings and plastering in Ascot’s Infill section and added wheels to his investment.
“At times fortune knocks once on a man’s door and once earned we need to use the fortune wisely. I have invested in a residential stand and my house is almost complete and the new car is obviously another addition.
“Who knows, without such advice we get from our parents some of us would be drinking opaque beer with the little we are earning but I am happy I have got guiding parents who are always there for me,” said Khumbuyani.
