THREE Mutare men who teamed up with their unidentified accomplices to kidnap their relative and rob him were each granted $20 000 bail by a Mutare magistrate.

Ignatious Mundondo (33), David Maramba (40) and Doubt Mazonde appeared before Ms Tamara Chibindi at the Mutare Magistrates’ Court last week on Thursday facing kidnap charges.

They allegedly contravened Section 93 (b) (iii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23 when they kidnapped Matthew Mundondo.

Ms Chibindi granted the trio $20 000 bail each and remanded the matter to April 20.

They were not asked to plead to the kidnap charge.

The 37-year-old Mundondo is the director of a Mutare company, Soleil Energy.

Prosecuting, Mr Tiriwamambo Kangai said the trio wanted to rob Mundondo of his money. However, Mundondo had no money on him.

“On January 22, the trio and their colleagues who are yet to be identified and are at large drove to Mundondo’s house and manhandled him. While in the house, and after realising that he had no money, they stole his three mobile phones, clothes, blankets and shoes, among other belongings, all valued at US$8 000.

“They forbade him from leaving his house, threatening him with unspecified action,” said Mr Kangai.

“The gang then sprinkled petrol on the property and set it on fire. Everything was burnt to ashes and nothing was recovered.”
