KING Mambo (born Mike Moyo) yesterday graced Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb where he encouraged the residents to revive, respect and preserve the African culture.
King Mambo also referred to as Ilitshe Aligiqiki was installed on 7 September 2019 during a ceremony attended by 121 chiefs drawn from across the country.
Cowdray Park residents braved the rainy weather to attend the meet and greet with King Mambo. The ceremony which started at around 2pm saw a lot of people dancing in the rain attired in their traditional gear.
King Mambo was ushered to his royal chair flanked by two of his wives, Queen Priscilla Percy Ndlovu (1st wife) and Queen Zandile Mhlambi (2nd wife).
“Do not be amazed that it is raining today, my other name is Mazalezulu (bearer of the rain). I am grateful that all of you are in attendance to meet me the Mambo, it brings me great joy to see that our culture is alive,” he said.
King Mambo said he is the one and only King in Zimbabwe and the people must be aware of replicas who claim to be kings.
“If anyone claims to be King in Zimbabwe, do not listen to them because they will be fake,” he said.
King Mambo said his tour in Cowdray Park is one of his many as he has travelled to different locations teaching people to preserve the African culture.
“We travel around doing outreach programmes, recently I’ve been to Tsholotsho, Chimanimani and Harare. I have travelled to various places and I will continue doing so. I have also started installing chiefs and headmen especially in Bulawayo and Harare because that is how we used to rule in the old days,” he said.
He revealed that they have structures where they train young boys (Amabutho) and young girls (Amatshitshi) on how to behave themselves, preserve themselves and grow up to be better people.
“Amatshitshi consist of young girls between 13 and 18 years and they are taught to preserve themselves because once you educate a girl, you educate the nation. Amabutho consist of young boys and they are taught to protect their country from the enemies and are also encouraged to cease from doing drugs,’’ he said.
King Mambo expressed his wishes on Zimbabwe as he hopes that one day everyone will unite, love each other, live peacefully and avoid hatred.
