THEY have been the Kings of Penalties of late but Jairos Kasondo, their number one penalty taker, is showing signs of weakness from the spot.
The striker is enduring a difficult run from the penalty spot.
He has missed two penalties in recent league outings.
Against Simba Bhora, he saw his effort parried away by William Thole.
On Sunday, against Triangle at Rufaro, he sent Panashe Nyabunga the wrong way but rolled his effort wide from the spot.
Despite these misses, Kasondo remains Dynamos’ leading goal-scorer with six goals.
Three of those goals have come from the penalty spot.
He has converted three and missed two, giving him a 60% success rate from 12 yards.
Dynamos have, however, managed to win both matches where Kasondo missed from the spot.
Kasondo said he will not let his recent misses affect his confidence.
“It’s painful, but that’s football,” he said.
“Scoring goals is the perfect feeling for me. I like it and enjoy it.
“But, when it’s not your day, anything can happen and you can’t do much about it.
“Missing a penalty then becomes painful. But that’s the game of football, you score some, and you miss some.
“I am eager to get more goals. And by the end of the season the target is 20,”
His coach is also singing in his corner.
“Jairos has confidence, he can do anything,” said coach Genesis Mangombe.
“Some of the boys will be hiding and saying, give it to him.
“We are going to work on that and make sure that, at the end of the day, he can score many penalties and we will rely on him.”
