A 47-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man turned Nyandoro Butchery in the Bulawayo City Centre into an action movie set after allegedly pulling a knife over fish worth just US$6.
Yes, US$6.
Gugulethu Ndlovu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Vimbai Chirai facing theft charges after his dramatic stunt.
Instead of prison bars, he was handed 360 hours of community service.
According to prosecutor Joseph Rugara, the fish fiasco unfolded on 8 February at around 9am.
Ndlovu allegedly stormed into the butchery, confronted shop attendant Lovemore Mthethwa and waved a knife while demanding fish for free.

Mthethwa, however, was not ready to donate seafood under duress. He stood his ground and refused to hand over the stock.
That is when things got even more interesting.
The court heard that Ndlovu casually stepped behind the counter, an area strictly for staff, opened the fridge, grabbed the fish and walked out like he was collecting a takeaway order.

All this over fish worth the price of a few loaves of bread.
The incident was reported to the police and Ndlovu was later arrested.
In court, he explained his bold move in the simplest terms.
He was hungry and wanted the fish as a side dish.
Instead of enjoying fried fish, Ndlovu will now be serving the community for 360 hours, probably thinking about how expensive that US$6 meal turned out to be.
