Knowing your identity

Greetings to the nation.

Everyone must understand his or her identity as ordained by God so that the purposes of God may be fulfilled through our identity.

We have to understand that if our identity has many gaps it will not reveal Christ the way he is supposed to be revealed because we will not be knowing the full assignment that God has given you as an individual or corporately as a body of Christ.

Many people operate without identity. In Hebrews 11:24 the Bible says, “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.”

I want us to understand that Moses grew up in a palace as the grandson of Pharaoh, he had the best education, he was raised in royalty, he knew the language of Egypt and he ate the best food of the palace.

But the Bible tells us that he refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. I am not surprised that God used him to deliver the children of Israel.

My question is how can a man like Moses who went to one of the best schools in Egypt, who was living a comfortable life, wearing the best designer clothing, how can he refuse to be a son of the daughter of Pharaoh.
Refusing all these privileges.

Remember here it was before he met the burning bush. He chose to identify himself with the children of Israel who were under slavery. I am asking myself this question, why Moses? You are living in a palace, you have bodyguards, you are honoured as one of the grandsons of the great king Pharaoh of that time in Egypt.

And yet he chose to identify himself with the children of Israel who were under slavery.

The answer is that it was because he discovered his true identity because of his mother who taught him well about his identity. In Hebrews 11:25, we see Moses choosing to rather suffer affliction with the people of God than enjoying the pleasures of sin for a season.

There are people that have missed God’s visitation or for God to use them in this end time because we don’t know our identity. We are not what God says we are, we are not in synchron with God’s book of destiny.

We are living another book than for us to live the book that God has written for us. Just imagine if Moses had continued to live in palaces and pretending to be the son of the Pharaohs daughter, what was going to happen to the children of Israel in Egypt.

Their prophetic destiny was going to be shattered. But we want to thank God for people like the mother of Moses who was able to download the God-given identity in the life of Moses.

That’s why we saw the great exodus of the children of Israel after 430 years in Egypt because of someone who understood his God-given identity.

When you know your identity there are certain things that you will choose even though they seem like a reproach because you know the person whom you are serving is greater than your reputation.

In verse 26 we see Moses, “Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” We see that when you understand your identity, there are things that you will not fear and also your identity will choose the battles that you need to fight and it is by your identity that you are able to overcome every battle that comes your way.

We see Moses didn’t fear the wrath of Pharaoh because his identity made him to see God who is invisible.

So when we do not know our identity as God’s people there are certain things that can make us misrepresent Christ and certain graces will not manifest in us that are supposed to be pointers to Christ Jesus.

One of the prophets in the New Testament that did not fully manifest his identity is John. The prophecy according to Malachi 4:4-5 says, “… Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.” Malachi prophesied about the Elijah who will come or a man who will carry the spirit and power of Elijah.

That was John and the Bible tells us that John did not do any miracles. We see that there were too many gaps in the identity of Elijah because prophecy pointed to John.

When we read in Luke 1 we see an angel of God visiting the father of John, Zacharias who was a priest and the angel told him about his son, his name, his identity and his separation and that he will be filled also by the Holy Ghost when in his mother’s womb. This is John who had the spirit of Elijah who was prophesied by Malachi and Isaiah. The angel said John shall go before him in the spirit and in the power of Elijah. I want us to underline the words “spirit” and “power”.

Elijah was a man of fire, he carried fire. But we are not told of any miracle that was done by John to cause the children of Israel to focus their attention on Jesus the Messiah. We see in the book of John 1:19 some Jews sending priests and Levites from Jerusalem to go and ask John who he is, because the Jews were studying prophecy and waiting to find out the one who will introduce the Messiah.

But because of lack of education from his father, when he was asked, “are you Elijah?” He said he is not. When asked “are you the prophet?” He denied and said no. But prophecy was pointing to him and his father was told clearly who John was and what he was carrying.

He carried two dimensions (i) the spirit of Elijah and (ii) the power of Elijah. We only see one dimension which was the dimension of the spirit of Elijah. Look at the death of John, a man who was carrying the power of Elijah. We see when Elijah was approached by the captains of the king he released fire from Heaven and it burnt them, he could not be arrested. But John, the man who had the power and the spirit of Elijah got arrested and his head was cut off.

When we read in John 1:19-23, we can ask what was going to happen when they wanted to arrest John and he commanded the fire from Heaven. I will tell you. King Herod was going to command people to hear the message of God including the Pharisees, priests, and Levites.

They were going to turn to Christ. Remember in the days of Daniel in Chapter 6 when Daniel was in the lions’ den. The guy who knew his identity, he would not stop praying even though there was a decree made that no one shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of the king, else they will be thrown in lion’s den. The king discovered that the lions could not eat Daniel and he commanded the whole nation to worship the God of Daniel.

These are men who knew their identity in Christ. The more we discover our identity the more we draw the nation to Christ. The reason many people are not believing the message of Christ through us is because we are all over.

We don’t know who we are, we are like chameleons, today we are red, and tomorrow we are blue. The power of God cannot flow well where identity is not defined and lived. We have too many men of God who are mixing, who will tell you that you need something to help you to grow your church, to attract people. We are living in a confused generation. A generation that does not trust God fully. May God help us and restore our identity so that we may represent God well.

I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that he is your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved.

May God bless you all. Amen.
