A BULAWAYO kombi driver lost his temper in court when his wife demanded that he pays maintenance for the upkeep of their two children.
Sithembelenkosini Mpofu applied for an order directing Paul Sithole to pay $150 for the upkeep of their two children, which angered the kombi driver.
Sithole told magistrate Manasa Musiiwa that he saw no point in paying maintenance for he was the one catering for the family’s expenses.
“Your worship, I see no point in me being dragged here for maintenance because I’m the one looking after my family. I buy groceries and pay rent. This woman is my wife and we stay together,” fumed Sithole.
Asked why she had dragged her husband to court, Mpofu said she was no longer sure about their marriage.
“I’m not sure if we are still married because of late he hasn’t been coming home. He doesn’t even communicate about his whereabouts. I don’t know if he will ever come back for us,” said Mpofu.
Sithole told the court that he had not been going home because of work.
“The kombis I drive go out of town and sometimes I spend nights at the rank queuing. At times I leave town around 6PM making it difficult for me to do return trips because there won’t be customers around that time,” said Sithole.
The magistrate ordered Sithole to pay $70 for the upkeep of his two children.
