A KOMBI driver from Honde Valley under Chief Samanga appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira facing two charges of touting for passengers and assaulting a police officer.
The court heard that on September 4, around 9am, Simon Chitungo (29), who is a kombi driver, was touting for passengers at Mudzviti rank when Constable Tatenda Mabhena, who is stationed at Dangamvura police station, was on patrol, tried to arrest him and he resisted.

When Mabhena tried to apply force to arrest him, Chitungo then hit him with a fist in the head before biting his left hand and broke loose.
Chitungo was then arrested with the help of Constable Zikani who was also on patrol together with Mabhena. He pleaded guilty to the charges he was facing and in his defence Chitungo said he had a family to take care of.

“I have a pregnant wife and a child to take care of, Your worship, and I admit what I did was wrong and had no right of doing that,” said Chitungo.

Mr Gwezhira ordered him to pay a fine of $100 or face two months imprisonment if he fails to pay before  September 30.
Two months were wholly suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence within the next five years.
