A man from Bulawayo’s Pumula North suburb allegedly smashed a windscreen of a commuter omnibus after he suspected that his girlfriend was inside the vehicle.

The incident was heard at the Bulawayo magistrates’ courts last week on Friday.

It was heard the accused Dylane Moyo (29) spotted his girlfriend Nomathemba Sibanda (23) in Allam Zikhali’s commuter omnibus.

When Moyo called her on her cellphone she allegedly switched it off.

That did not go down well with Moyo who drove to Zikhali’s car.

Upon arrival Zikhali sped off. Moyo gave chase and caught up with him at Sixth Avenue and Basch Street intersection.

Moyo allegedly blocked Zikhali’s commuter omnibus while accusing Zikhali of snatching his girlfriend.

But Zikhali allegedly stood his ground telling him that he was not in love with her and she remained behind at the terminus.

Seeing that his effort was fruitless he smashed the windscreen of the commuter omnibus before speeding off.

Zikhali had already captured the number plates of his vehicle.

Zikhali reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Moyo.

He appeared before magistrate Ulukile Mlea- Ndlovu facing a charge of malicious damage to property.

Moyo pleaded not guilty to the charge.

“On the day in question I was not working. I was at home preparing to leave for a funeral in the rural areas. The vehicle was parked at the car park,” he said.

He was remanded out of custody to 6 August for trial.
