A KOMBI driver who defied traffic police instructions to stop at a roadblock was involved in an accident after the police gave chase last Friday morning.
The driver, Wisdom Manjonjo, who was driving a Toyota Hiace (ABQ 7505), fled the accident scene and is still at large.

Confirming the incident, deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said Wisdom was driving along the Mutare-Chimanimani road towards Mutare with 15 passengers on board.

“When he approached Moses Mvenge Hall (Moffat Hall), Manjonjo was ordered to stop by Constable Chimhike, but instead of stopping, Manjonjo drove towards the police officer and hit her on the right shoulder with a rear-view mirror before she fell down.

“Manjonjo did not stop and sped into Vumba Road.
“When he was in Glasgow Road, near Eagle Panel Beaters, he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned once before landing on its left side, seriously injuring twelve passengers in the process,” said Asst Insp Chananda.
