TEN member dance group from Bulawayo, Kontrol Freaks, are set to announce their presence on the local dance scene with their exquisite and well orchestrated dance moves, which will surely mesmerise fans of all ages starting end of August. Their recent performances at Christ Embassy with award-winning gospel artiste, Ndichamutambira hitmaker, Blessing ‘Flem B’ Manyangadze, have won them many Bulawayo fans.

The group comprises seven boys and three girls who are all members of Christ Embassy. The seven boys are  Bukhosi “Trey Love” Mlilo (20), Renaldo Isheanesu “Twist” Xaverio (19), Donovan “Eldon” Dube (20), Nyasha” King” Mugavira (20), Joshua “Q-Blayze” Chaka (20), and 17-year-old twin brothers, Tanaka “Flame” and Tinashe “Nash Banks” Xaverio.

While the three female performers who spice up things during their dance routines are Tatenda “Midiah” Mavawani, Sekela Sibanda and Melody Tasha who are all 17-years-old.

Five boys are students at Bulawayo Polytechnic and the twins will be going to university some time next year. Two of the girls are studying at Dominican Convent and the other, Melody Tasha is a student at Speciss College and all are doing their O-levels.

The group members met at a dance competition at church and decided to join forces.
In an interview, the group’s spokesperson Ronaldo Xaverio said they were out to take over and dominate the country’s dance scene. They want to show their talent to Bulawayo and the country at large.

“We were not friends before, but we met because God wanted us to do this. This is our calling and we are here to inspire all the youths out there. We encourage them to try and realise their dreams and use their talents,” he said.

Xaverio said they are all comfortable mixing books and music since most of their rehearsals are done after school between 3 and 4pm.
The group has held a number of live shows with 2012 ZBCtv top 50 video countdown winner, gospel artiste  Manyangadze  and is in the middle of preparing for his latest video shoot. They are looking forward to doing battles with a number of established groups on the local scene.

Xaverio said they are here to show the world that there is talent in Zimbabwe and they are dreaming of performing at Beat Break Down or World of Dance in South Africa.

“We are still dancing in church, but we are also taking our dance outside the church. We believe we are destined to do this and we are dreaming big. One day we hope to represent our country at big dance competitions,” he said.

The boys encourage other dance groups to come out and challenge them in exciting competitions. They called on local promoters not to look down on dance competitions.

“Dance competitions and the entire dance scene are being looked down by local promoters. We want to come together with other dance groups and improve the dance scene. There is talent in this industry and it should be considered just like the music scene. We call upon all dance groups in Bulawayo and the country at large to unite and improve our genre,” said Joshua Chaka.

Even though they started dancing in church, they are happy to dance to secular music, whenever they are called to showcase their talent.
They all agreed that there was nothing wrong with dancing to a hip-hop song at a function, as long as they do want is expected of them by God.
