ZIMBABWEAN boxer Takudzwa Kuchocha is hoping to fly the national flag high when he takes on Namibia’s Julius “Blue Machine” Indongo in the welterweight WBO Africa title fight.
Although this will be his first title match, Kuchocha is no stranger to foreign rings — having tackled opponents from Zambia, Malawi and South Africa earning himself a record of 16 wins and four losses.
For Kuchocha, who is set to fight over 12 rounds, the title fight is a dream come true.
“This is something I have always been dreaming of and now it’s here, I can’t wait.
“My hands are literally itching and I am confident that I can bring the belt home,” said Kuchocha.
Trainer Simion Sankulani said his boxer had a good chance.
“I have trained Takudzwa since he was 13 and he is a talented boxer with a bright future ahead of him, I believe he can bring the title home.
“As a boxer he has an advantage with his height and speed and these have always served him well in his previous fights and we expect the Windhoek match to be no different.
“Indongo is a worthy contender and we appreciate his prowess in the ring.”
The pair, however, expressed concern at the lack of sponsorship in the sport.
“Most boxers have stopped fighting because they fail to secure sponsorship to further their careers,” said Sankulani.
The Chitungwiza-based boxer will battle in the event dubbed “No Mercy Part 3”.
Another Zimbabwean who will also be in action is Gweru’s Richard Muriri, who will take on Namibia’s Jeremiah Nakthila in a six-round non-title bout .
