Award-winning choral group – Chitungwiza Harmony Singers will headline at a concert dubbed “Music For All Time” at Reps Theatre on July 24 to 26 featuring Peter Hadingham, the Lorna Kelly Studio and the Zimopera Singers.
Conducted by Arnold Dzangare and George Tamisai as well as pianists Ruth Chard and Mark Hyde the choir will perform two shows on July 26.
The Thursday and Friday concerts start at 7pm and those who do not have grey hair and wrinkles may be asked to provide proof of age for them to get discounted tickets.
On Saturday the first concert starts at 2.30pm and the second concert will start at 7pm.
The choir will be singing a new piece, “Bayethe Mandela”, by the well known South African composer Mathokoza Albert Sibiya, a piece from Haydn’s Creation as well as traditional, negro spiritual and western music with guest artiste Hadingham as well as soloists from the choir.
“I have been going through to Chitungwiza every Sunday to listen to them and I think the standard of music is exceptional.
“Also I have learn a lot, how to read music written in tonic sol fa, how to navigate in Chitungwiza, Shona nursery rhymes and above I have made some fantastic new friends, “ Linda Hyde the publicist said.
The Chitungwiza Harmony Singers sing in 11 different languages which draws them wider audiences.
The choir won international acclaim having participated in South Africa’s 10 year independence celebrations, the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, the regional and finals of the Old Mutual National Choral Festival in South Africa and the 2013 International Choral Festival in the United States.
